100 Venders Expected for the 7th Annual Outer Banks Bike Week April 23rd -April 26... |

Over
100 venders will be located at 3 different sites on the Outer Banks for
the 2009 Outer Banks Bike Week festivities. In addition, tired bikers
will be able to listen to live music all over islands including a big
special bash on the stage at Kitty
Hawk Harley-Davidson that usually includes a bikini contest. Major
Bike shows will be spread out over three separate locations that also
include Nags Head Harley-Davidson and Vertigo Tattoo. Rally highlights
include a poker run, BBQ cook-off and beer tasting at High Cotton BBQ,
chopper builders display, stunt riders and some special activities every
night at a designated club to be known as Official Party Central. In addition,
Vertigo
Tattoo Parlor, across Alligator River in Manns Harbor will continue
to host their famous 4 Days of Mayhem during this year's Bike Week. Last
year they gave out free beer to bikers and quickly became the rally's
most popular hangout. Every day at Vertigo’s brings something different.
Expect a genre of bike show that you won's forget as well as some special
contests centered on humans instead of machines. However, the burnout
pit and the Wall of Death Stunt Show will be back this year. See

Raid Renegades Motorcycle Clubhouse in Elizabeth City......... |

The
raid on Wednesday, Jan 27 occurred at the Outlaw gang’s
clubhouse and meeting place located at 1623-B U.S. Highway 17 north and
was part of a joint operation that included several Renegade Club member
homes that were also raided where police netted guns, knives, and small
amounts of narcotics. The raids followed the arrest of three area men
on Wednesday with ties to the outlaw motorcycle club. They included William
Jeffrey Wolfe, 43, of the 300 block of Ferry Road, Hertford; Jerry Lynn
“Skunk” Gurganus, 52, of the 100 block of Letitia Drive, Elizabeth
City; and Daniel Ray Justice, 41, of the 1100 block of Shillelagh Road
in Chesapeake, Va... Police allege Gurganus was an enforcer for the club’s
national organization which has about 200 members. Gurganus came to the
police’s attention after an alleged assault on a Suffolk man earlier
in the month... |

My
first act of preparation was to purchase the book Alaska by Motorcycle
by Dr. Gregory W. Frazier, a well known motorcyclist adventurer who has
motorcycled around the world 5 times. He provided some excellent details
on the road conditions from Canada and Alaska and recommendations on what
to bring, road hazards, wildlife, and roads to travel. I am the proud
owner of a 2002 Honda Shadow 750 which unfortunately was not on the list
of recommended bikes . Who would have guessed? The list of candidates
consisted mostly of dual sports including the Kawasaki KLR 650 and the
BMW GS. Well, I didn’t really want to drop quarter of a mortgage
on a new motorcycle (maybe next time BMW). The KLR 650 looked like the
right bike. It had a reputation to be very tough and dependable, however,
I was concerned about how such an off road bike would ride on the interstate.
So, I decided to stick it out with my trusty 750(fingers crossed once

City State University Professor Dies After Motorcycle Wreck in Virginia Beach |

Elizabeth Carla Mitchell, 43, was driving south on Princess Anne Road
in Virginia Beach around 8 p.m.Saturday when her custom built motorcycle
left the highway, flipped over and ejected her onto the roadway. Mitchell
was treated by emergency medical workers at the scene and then transported
by helicopter to a local hospital, where she reportedly died.

Smith, 36, was riding west on Pudding Ridge Road with a group of motorcyclists
when he missed a curve, ran off the road and ended up in a ditch on Sunday
morning, August 24. Smith was airlifted by helicopter to Sentara Norfolk
General Hospital where he was reported to be in fair condition

Wyand, 30, of Norfolk, Va., reported his motorcycle brakes locked up while
riding south toward the Outer Banks on U.S. 158 near the Coinjock Bridge
in Currituck County around 2 p.m. Saturday, August 23 forcing him into
a ditch. No injuries were reported. |

Ride to Cape Hatteras to Help Bible College |
||
Approximately
20 motorcycle riders paid $50 to ride in the first-ever "Ride to
the Light" on Saturday August 9, 2008. The ride was a scholarship
fundraiser for Roanoke Bible College. Starting at the campus in Elizabeth
City, riders were led to Cape Hatteras Lighthouse by Mark Woolard, an
ordained minister and member of Roanoke Bible College Class of 1990. The
riders spent the evening before the ride in the college dorms where they
received a meal, enjoyed live music and listened to a special guest speaker.
The goal of the motorcycle rally was to raise money for mission programs. |

City Fireman Dies From Injuries Suffered in Motorcycle Accident |

| On
Thursday May 15, Elizabeth City Fireman Jeffrey Vaughn 46 was riding his
motorcycle on Halstead Boulevard in Elizabeth City when the motorcycle’s
rear wheel slipped and he lost control of his motorcycle. The motorcycle
struck a road median and came to a rest in the opposite lane. Vaughn’s
injuries included a broken ankle, lacerated liver and broken ribs. Vaughn
was released from the hospital the following Monday, however he suffered
a seizure while visiting a restaurant the day he was released from the
hospital and died soon after returning to the hospital. |

County High School Class Completes Biodiesel Harley Davidson |

| The
2003 Harley-Davidson Fatboy was originally modified to run on vegetable
oil by a high school class in Pennsylvania. Keystone Biofuels then recruited
Mark Wootton's AutoTech II class at Currituck County High School to repair
the motorcycle and turn it into a theme bike. The project took about four
months and $20,000 in parts to finish. Currituck students working on the
project included Bryan Leary, Adam Link, Art Perry. The motorcycle is
scheduled to be featured on the television show "American Thunder"
in June. |

to police officials the unidentified motorcyclist was traveling west on
Main Street in South Mills abround 3 pm on Saturday, Jan. 12 when he swerved
to avoid hitting a Hummer SUV entering the road from Joys Creek Road.
The motorcyclist was thrown from his motorcycle. Due to the serious nature
of his injuries, the man was flown by an emergency helicopter to Sentara
Norfolk General Hospital. |

Histand, 41 was seriously injured when his BMW motorcycle ran into the
back of a car driven by Donald L. Black, 51 of Hyattsville, Md. The accident
occurred at the intersection of Tulls Creek Road and N.C. Highway 168
on Sunday, August 19, 2007. Histand, from Gloucester Va. was airlifted
to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital for treatment. Several children in
the car were taken to Chesapeake General for minor injuries. Histand was
cited for the accident. |

Myrtle
Beach, South Carolina has launched a new
website to deter people from coming to their city during the bike
rally in May, 2009. Do not believe anything you read on their web site.
Most of the information on the site is false. There will be a 69th.
Myrtle Beach Spring Rally in May, 2009 as usual on the Grand Strand.
However, there will be no activities sponsored by the city of Myrtle Beach
inside the city limits. There have never been many activities scheduled
within the city limits as the majority of bike week events usually take
place outside city limits. Plenty of Bike Week activities have been scheduled
this year within Horry county as normal for every Bike Week and nothing
has changed this year. The Myrtle
Beach Bike Rally usually attracts over 300,000 riders for its 10 days
in May. This years Spring Rally will be happening between MAY 8th-17th,

new study says men who ride motorcycles are at risk of impotence and urinary
problems because the vibration of the engine damages nerves in their penises.
According to the study, about 76 per cent of riders aged 40 to 49, and
93 per cent of those aged 50 to 59, reported severe erectile dysfunction,
compared with 37 per cent and 42 per cent respectively among those who
did not ride motorcycles. |

Lowery, 39 lost control of his motorcycle and crashed into a parked truck
while riding south in the 900 block of north 30th street in Wilmington
on Friday afternoon, August 22, 2008. Lowery was thrown from the motorcycle
more than 60 feet. He was taken to New Hanover Regional Medical center
where he later died. |

state Revenue Department says Gross sales in Meade and Lawrence counties
were nearly $11.4 million, a decline of $1.2 million over 2007’s
sales. In addition, tourism taxes collected from temporary vendors in
Meade and Lawrence counties were down 11% this year. Slightly more than
$761,000 in taxes were collected, down $92,000 from last year. Officials
said there were 1,191 vendors at the motorcycle rally this year compared
to 1,327 in 2007. |

Motorcycle
deaths increased by 6.6 % in 2007, making it the 10th straight year of
increase motorcycle related fatalities. 5,154 motorcyclists died in crashes
throughout the USA in 2007. Deaths on motorcycles hit their low tide in
1997 with 2,116 deaths. Since then deaths have risen 128 %. Their share
of crash fatalities among all motor vehicles have jumped to almost 13
percent from 1997. |

investigation was initiated after 100 pictures showing public nudity and
bikers engaging in public sexual activity taking place during the motorcycle
rally were dropped off to the Travis County Commissioner's Office. The
popular motorcycle rally has been held every summer in Austin for the
past 14 years and this year’s attendance was estimated at 40,000
bikers. Officials indicated they were aware of public nudity during the
rally. A Texas Judge indicated being topless was not a violation of law
in Texas, however nudity along with engaging in sexual activity in a public
setting may be. |

for cheap transportation in war devastated Japan. Honda began his effort
by installing military surplus engines in bicycles. As Honda became more
prosperous, he designed his own 50cc engine for the bicycles. The first
motorcycle that featured a completely Honda designed motor and frame was
produced in 1949. It was called the Model D for Dream. The success of
