April 28, 2013 Dare Sheriff’s Deputies received a call regarding
the larceny of some jewelry from a residence on Mother Vineyard Road
on Roanoke Island. The victim reported that a significant number of
rings and other jewelry had been taken from her residence. Dare CID
Investigators initiated an investigation into the incident. As a result
of the investigation, suspects were developed and warrants were drawn
on May 3rd. On May 4, 2013 the warrants were served on the below suspects
for the indicated charges. Courtney Elizabeth Sadler 19, 341 Mother Vineyard Rd., Roanoke Island charged with Felony Larceny, Conspiracy to Commit Felony Larceny, Resist/Obstruct Public Officer, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Sadler was committed to the Dare County Detention Center under a $7,000 bond Issac Stewart Moore 20, 119 Arbor Drive, Roanoke Island was charged with Larceny of Jewelry/Roanoke Island, Felony Larceny, Conspiracy to Commit Felony Larceny, Resist/Obstruct Public Officer, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Moore was committed to the Dare County Detention Center under a $7,000 bond. On April 19, 2013, Dare Sheriff’s Narcotics Deputies, assisted by Kill Devil Hills Police Officers were conducting surveillance on a location in Kill Devil Hills. Deputies noticed a vehicle waiting in the area containing two persons. After some more surveillance, officers noticed a second vehicle approach the area. The driver of the second vehicle exited his vehicle and approached the vehicle that was waiting. Officers witnessed an exchange occur between the driver of the first vehicle and the driver of the second vehicle and the second vehicle left the premises. Officers initiated a vehicle stop on the first vehicle, as it was leaving the premises. After some inquiries of the vehicle occupants and the deployment of a K-9, a quantity of controlled substance was located. The driver was subsequently arrested and charged as below. Lisa Marie Mitchel 44, Kill Devil Hills was charged with Possession of Controlled Substance/Kill Devil Hills, Possession with the Intent to Manufacture, Sell or Deliver Schedule II Controlled Substance (Cocaine), Possession of Schedule II Controlled Substance. Mitchel was released on a $3,200 bond On April 29, 2013 an incident was reported at the Salvo Fire Department where the Fire Department had been entered and significant damage had occurred. Deputies responded to the location where a member of the Fire Department reported that there was a gouge in the concrete floor and large holes were made in the plywood wall of the fire station with a pry bar from the fire truck. There were several other items damaged also. The investigation further revealed there were some fire equipment items missing. Dare CID initiated an investigation of the incident. As a result of this investigation, suspects were developed and those suspects were charged on May 7, 2013 as indicated below. Kieran Lee Bow Man 19, 52131 Gondyke Way, Frisco, NC was charged with Possession of Burglary Tools, Breaking and Entering (Forced) (2 counts), Larceny after B&E (2 counts), Possession of Stolen Property (2 counts), Damage to Real Property, Damage to Personal Property. Bow Man was committed to the Dare County Detention Center in Lieu of $37,000 bond. Steven Anthony Nelson 19, 51839 NC Hwy 12, Frisco, NC was charged with Possession of Burglary Tools, Breaking and Entering (Forced) (2 counts), Larceny after B&E (2 Counts), Possession of Stolen Property (2 counts). Martin, 49, of the 200 block of Green View Road, Moyock arrested May 2 and charged with failure to appear in court as required. William Leroy Irving, 32, of the 600 block of 11th St., Greenville arrested May 2 and charged with being drunk in public. Linville Park Elkin, 53, of the 100 block of Halstead Drive, Moyock served a criminal summons May 3 for second-degree trespassing. official with the Ocracoke Sheriff's Department reports vandals threw
a cinder block through the rear window of one patrol car and painted
the second car with yellow green paint while they were parked at the
Pony Island Motel. The Sheriff's office is urging people with any information

School Track, held on Friday, April 26. The event had athletes from
several Dare County schools, the Monarch Beach Club of Manteo and the
Monarch Lighthouse Club of Currituck competing for a gold, silver or

For
the second time in three years, the First Flight Seahawks track team
accomplished the inconceivable when the boys and girls teams won the
Albemarle Athletic Conference Middle School Championships on April 26.
The boys dominated, while the girls squeaked out a nail-biter against
seven other conference schools, with First Flight downing nearest competitor,
Moyock; 137-87 and 105-100, respectively. The other teams' scores did
not even come close. The boys were led by Jordan Austin and Devyn Dodson.
Austin set a conference and school record, recording six feet in the
high jump. Dodson won the 1600 and 800 meter runs, tying the school
record in the half mile at 2:19. Alex Rodman also won both girls' middle
distance events, setting a conference and school record in the 800,
in 2:35, while Kayla Carson won the high jump and long jump, overturning
the five-year school record with a high jump of five feet. Brealle White
broke the discus school record with a toss of 70'8". Submitted

April 17, 2013 Dare County Narcotics Investigators, in cooperation with
the Pasquotank County Sheriff’s Office conducted a narcotics investigation
into Heroin distribution in Dare County. Information developed that indicated Heroin was being brought into Dare County from Virginia. As a result of the investigation of this information, Dare County Deputies were able to make several arrests for Heroin Charges. The suspects and their charges are below. Zackary Barksdale 24, of 243 Sir Richard, Colington was arrested for possession with the Intent to Sell or Deliver Heroin, conspiring to Sell or Deliver Heroin, possession of a Firearm by a Felon and service of Outstanding Narcotics Warrants. Samuel Lavelle Jemkins 26, of 814 Francis Drake, Manteo was arrested for Possession with the Intent to Sell or Deliver Heroin, Conspiring to Sell or Deliver Heroin and possession of a Firearm by Felon. site. "Shipley started surfing in Southern California in 1951 and
is still an active surfboard builder. After moving to the East Coast
in 1967, he has surfed in every state except New Hampshire and Maine.

Lee Uhrig is wanted by the Nags Head Police on charges of Second Degree
Rape and Kidnapping. The charges stem from an incident that occurred
in Nags Head during the month of June of 2012 and involved a 15 year
old female victim during a family vacation on the Outer Banks. The incident
was reported to Nags head Police in February 2013 and has involved a
joint investigation with police in Arizona and Ohio. Uhrig is a white
male, 32 years of age with brown hair and blue eyes; he is approximately
5’10”, 141lbs. He has a tattoo on the right side of his
neck and has a pierced left ear. If anyone has seen him or knows where

The
entire Outer Banks Sporting Events (OBSE) Team, partners, and sponsors
wish to express its sincerest condolences to the family of 55 year old
Christopher “Chris” Charles Heasly who collapsed just feet
from the Finish Line on Saturday April 13, 2013 at the First Flight
5K. Prior to his tragic collapse, Chris energetically encouraged and
cheered his fellow participants including a first time 8 year old runner.
After being assisted by fellow runners, race officials, and first responders,
Chris was transported by ambulance to Outer Banks Hospital where he
passed away. Chris and his family are from Fairfax, Va. and have been
vacationing on the Outer Banks for over 20 years. OBSE extends its genuine
thanks to all those who responded so quickly and compassionately to
Chris and his family. We are very proud to be a part of such a caring

| $1500.00 Diamond Stolen from Silver Bonsai Gallery in Manteo | |||
Dare
County Crimeline reports that on the morning of "Friday, April
5, 2013, a W/F described as 40 – 50 years of age, above average
height, “thick-boned,” with shoulder length brown hair,
entered the Silver Bonsai Gallery in Manteo and began asking tourist-type
questions. One of the owners was working on a setting a loose diamond
at the back of the gallery at the working station. When the owner turned
around to go to a back cabinet, the suspect went behind the counter.
The owner found her there and asked her to step back around the counter
and at this time the W/F left the gallery. The owner was the only person
working in the gallery at the time and no other customers were there.
The owner discovered the diamond missing after the suspect left. The
diamond is described as a .49 karat, SI2 (clarity), J (color), round
(cut), with some major chips on the pavilion. Replacement value is $1500.00."

The
Fourth Annual Flying Pirate Half Marathon was held April 14th, 2013.
This event is planned each year by Outer Banks Sporting Events and presented
by Wells Fargo Bank, title sponsor for the fourth consecutive year.
Over 2900 registered runners and walkers came to the Outer Banks to
compete in this Pirate themed weekend. Runners from 38 states and 4
countries joined the fun. The fastest time to the Finish was runner
Pat Hayburn, from Boothwyn, PA, with a time of 1:13:05. Jessica Witter,
local OBX runner, was the first woman to cross the Finish line. Her
time was 1:33:14. Congratulations Runners! Besides the pivotal Half Marathon event on Sunday, the weekend also offered the First Flight 5K and Family Fun Run on Saturday morning at the Wright Brothers Memorial Park. The Flying Pirate Race Expo was open to the public Friday and Saturday at the Dare Recreation Center in Kill Devil Hills, offering race gear, athletic apparel, and food for purchase from Outer Banks Brewing Station. |

Participants
took their mark on Sunday morning, taking off from Dominion Power, on
The Woods Road, in Kitty Hawk, on a course that follows the first half
of the Gateway Bank Outer Banks Marathon. Along the course athletes
were entertained by live local bands, our own OBX Pirates from the Jolly
Roger Restaurant and fun “Runner Species” signs designed
by resident artist Chris Kemp. Runners were cheered by enthusiastic
groups at all 6 Mile Markers. Groups of volunteers were seen handing
out Gatorade, water and encouragement. |
